Our membership chair and official photographer, Herschel Weintraub, is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio.  He studied Biomedical Engineering at Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Ohio in 1970 and subsequently earned a doctorate in Macromolecular Science at Case Western Reserve University  in 1975.  His research involved the determination of the shapes of drug molecules using computer-based techniques.

Herschel's first paying job was as an Assistant Professor in the Purdue University College of Pharmacy in Indiana, where he met his wife, Kay.  He subsequently worked in Pharmaceutical Research at Eli Lilly, Abbott, Merrell Dow (now Sanofi Aventis), Johnson & Johnson, and Genentech.  At Merrell Dow and J&J, he headed up the Computational Chemistry groups.  At Genentech Herschel was responsible for R&D IT.  Following Genentech he was a consultant with IBM Life Sciences Consulting, specializing in IT applications in Pharmaceutical and Healthcare R&D.

His first car was a hand-me-down 1956 Buick Roadmaster.  His first new car was a 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.  In 1983 he purchased his first used BMW, a 1983 733i 5-speed.  In 1998 he replaced it with a 1995 BMW 740iL (which he still drives).  In 1999, he purchased his 2000 Z3 2.8.

Herschel's wife Kay owns a 2009 Mini Cooper Clubman.  In addition to the Arizona Z-Series Club, Kay and Herschel belong to the Queen City Coopers (Mini Club) in Cincinnati as well as the Cin-Z-Roadsters, the Z-Series Club in Cincinnati.  He is the photographer for these clubs.  Herschel and Kay value the many friendships they've made in these groups.

In 2001 the Weintraubs moved to northern Peoria from the Bay Area, and in 2006 moved to Cincinnati after a few hot Phoenix summers.  After a few cold Cincinnati winters, they moved back to Peoria and now spend most of the year in Arizona and about 4 months in Cincinnati.

Herschel's other interests include photography, computers, travel, woodworking, and model railroading.
