Colorado Tour - July 20-23, 2007

Our Colorado trip was a huge success in spite of intermittent rain. We had 13 Arizona cars and 2 guest cars from Texas. The Friday drive to Durango was uneventful except for the wonderful driving experience itself and the opportunity to see a variety of landscapes.

Our Friday night banquet was held in a private room and the food and service were excellent. The banquet was topped of by a drawing for a series of door prizes donated by Jack Guthrie, the General Manager of North Scottsdale BMW. The winners of several beautiful BMW shirts were delighted and the grand prize winners were ecstatic. Karen Reed won the beautiful lady's BMW watch, and Ken Bergmeier won the macho BMW man's watch. Let's be sure we all support North Scottsdale BMW, the dealership that supports our club.

Saturday was touring day and we drove from Durango to Silverton, where we hung out for an hour or so and then headed north to Ouray through some 10,000 foot mountain passes and some of the most beautiful and colorful scenery you will ever see. The trip to Colorado is worth it just to experience the scenery. We might plan an extended Colorado tour in 2009 and we encourage you to join in if possible. Saturday evening everyone was on their own for dinner and a tour of the Durango Main Street tourist traps >>>>>> it's all great fun.

Sunday morning was set aside for the selected events, Mesa Verde, rafting, train ride, jeep tour or simply do nothing but lay back. The time went quickly and before you knew it, it was time to sack out for the evening after dinner and meet for an 8 AM group breakfast Monday morning. At about 9:30 we departed for home and outside of some more rain, it was fairly uneventful but still a lot of fun.

We're grateful for all the members who pitched in to organize the event, Mike Hunt, the Tripmeister, Mike Breslin, our VP who arranged the lunches going and returning, Jerry McCown for taking a lot of pictures and volunteering to be "tail end Charlie" most of the time, North Scottsdale BMW for their sponsorship, and everyone else who had a hand in it.

We appreciate all those who attended, without whom, there would be no events and no club. We encourage you to attend as many events as you have time for, you are the life blood of the club.

Below is some of the original correspondence on the event, which was initially planned for six days.

This will be a 7-day 6-night event as it was 2 years ago. We have selected the dates, starting on Friday, July 20, 2007 and returning on Thursday, July 26, 2007.

We're considering a different route on the outbound leg and covering some of the same routes we traveled 2 years ago, once we get up there. There are a number of attractions to be enjoyed, including Mesa Verde, Aspen, Royal Gorge train ride, river rafting, and many others. We will probably headquarter in Salida again as it is convenient as a "base" from which to operate.

The logistics for a trip like this are quite complex and we need an accurate head count as we move forward with detailed plans. Therefore, we would appreciate getting your RSVP ASAP. We realize some of you will have to put in for vacation time in order to attend and this much advance notice will hopefully give you enough time to plan ahead.

Please let us hear back from you with either a "yes", "no", or "maybe."

Updates will be sent out as they develop.
