October Drive - 10/17/09

Here are the details for the subject club tour.

We will meet at 8:15 AM at the Albertson's market on Carefree Hwy just East of Int 17 on the north side of Carefree Hwy. We meet toward the far east end by the bank. There is a bathroom and coffee available in a number of locations in the center.

At 8:30 AM we will head west on Carefree Hwy toward Wickenburg. DO NOT SPEED IN THE VICINITY OF LAKE PLEASANT The Peoria police have "bracelets" that fit the wrists of speeders. We will stop at McDonalds for 15 minutes for a comfort break.

After departing Wickenburg, we will drive the usual route up through Yarnell Hill and Hwy 89 to Prescott through the Prescott National Forest. Watch your speed on Yarnell Hill as "Arizona's Finest" may be lurking about. Previous trips on this route usually have a promise of cooler weather once we hit the town of Yarnell. If your top is up and you want to lower it, this is a good place to do it and we'll stop the caravan to accommodate this. Please keep your club radio tuned in for instructions.

The balance of the drive is pretty straight forward until we arrive at the outskirts of Prescott. There are several possible routes to get from the Courthouse area to hwy 89A to Jerome. I have selected the easiest one with fewest turns and complications. It does however, go through the commercial district with traffic lights. If we get separated, the lead group will find a place to pull off so we can get the group back together. We will be entering the town from Hwy 89 which becomes White Spar Rd for a short distance and then becomes Montezuma Street after a left hand turn. Stay on Montezuma Street past Goodwin St and Whiskey row, remain on Montezuma past Courthouse will be on your right. Gurley is the next street, turn right and remain on Gurley St ( also hwy 89 ) for about 1 mile which will take you to a fork in the road just past the commercial section. Hwy 69 goes to the right, back to I 17 and Phoenix. Stay to the left hwy 89 and in approximately 6 miles and you will come to the intersection of Hwy 89 and 89A. Turn right and follow the signs on 89A to Jerome. DO NOT GO STRAIGHT ON HWY 89, THAT WILL TAKE YOU TO ASHFORK

We will not be stopping in Jerome due to the weekend congestion in that town. After passing through Jerome you will still be on alt 89A and at the very bottom of the hill you will come to a stop sign with a gas station on the right, this is the town of Clarkdale and will be a good place to refuel and have a comfort break. When leaving the gas station, turn right and remain on 89A into Cottonwood. 89A becomes Cottonwood Blvd. At the corner of Cottonwood Blvd (89A) and Main St. turn right and follow Main St (also called 89A) for a short distance and you will come to a fork where hwy 260 goes off to the right and 89A to the left. Bear left (89A) to Sedona. Take 89A all the way into Sedona where 89A meets with Hwy 179 ( forks to the right to hwy 179. ) We want 179. Follow 179 a couple short blocks and turn right , remaining on 179 an now you will be southbound. It appears to be approximately 5 miles to Ridge trail Drive where we will turn right and go about mile. I'm guessing we will be able to see the hotel either straight ahead or on our right. The address is 10 Ridge View Drive and the phone number is you get lost is 928 284 6900. You can go to Google maps, Sedona, AZ and print out a map. Here is the URL I used. We'll be eating in the Grill with Grill prices :

Please have a full fuel tank when starting the trip and remember to bring your club radio. We do need your RSVP so we will have an accurate count for the restaurant. I have to provide this to them ahead of time so please, let's hear from you. Here is the list as of 9/29/09 Let's have some more join in.

There are a few different choices for the return route and that can be decided during or after lunch, not everyone will select the same route home.

Please send me your RSVP for this event as soon as you are in a position to decide.

We are finally coming to the end of the summer heat and entering into the "top down season."

Thanks,

Paul Ebeyer, President
