Roosevelt Lake/Globe Tour - 11/17/2012

On Saturday, November 17th  we will have a one day touring event of the Punkin Center, Roosevelt Lake, Globe, loop. To many of you, this will be a familiar route as we have done it five times in the past, this will be about 225 miles round trip. There is a lot of beautiful scenery and the route is highlighted by straights, sweeping bends and some tight twisties >>>>>>>>>> always an enjoyable drive! Lunch is at Guayos On The Trail, great Mexican food.

We will begin the tour at the Target shopping center parking lot in Fountain Hills located at the intersection of Saguaro and Shea Blvds, west end of the parking lot by Starbucks. Coffee, snacks and a restroom are available. Plan to arrive at 9:00 AM and we'll depart at 9:15 AM. As always, please arrive with a full fuel tank, there is fuel available in the general area east on Shea. Please remember your club radio and name tags.

We'll head north on Hwy 87 toward Payson and turn east on Hwy 188 toward Jake's Corner and Punkin Center, then on to Roosevelt Lake. We may stop for a scenic view depending upon the schedule that will have us arrive for lunch in Globe, around 12:30. About 33 miles from the Junction of 87 and 188 we will cross a bridge which spans an arm of the Lake, you may be able to catch a glimpse of the tallest brick dam in the U.S., Roosevelt Dam.

About 5 miles past the bridge, we will come to the entrance of the Tonto National Monument on the right side of the road. We may drive up to the picnic area for a view of the lake depending upon our ETA for Globe and lunch. After looking around, we will continue southeast on 188 to the restaurant (actually, into Globe for fuel and then back to the restaurant.

Let’s plan ahead to refuel before lunch, we can drive past the restaurant and go into Globe to refuel our cars so we will all be ready for the return trip following lunch. We’ll return the same way, but the scenery is entirely different going in the reverse direction, AWESOME  !!

It is important that I have a head count so I can arrange the proper space for the lunch so please send back your RSVP while you're thinking about it. This does not have to be sealed in concrete, we realize that sometimes things come up and you have to cancel. However, it helps us to have some idea what the size of the group will be.

Thanks
